Landal Expands the Number of Vacation Homes Available for the Visually Impaired
Leidschendam, Netherlands (April 16, 2012) –
Landal GreenParks believes vacations are for everyone, even groups for whom vacations are less accessible due to physical limitations. For a number of years Landal has been working with Comfortzorg to be able to offer home care at a vacation destination. Last year, Landal expanded its support for these groups by introducing Visionvilla, a special bungalow for people with a visual impairment. This has been such a success that other parks are now also starting to adopt the concept, starting with Landal Hoog Vaals in South Limburg, The Netherlands.
At first glance, the Visionvilla at Landal Landgoed ‘t Loo -- the first bungalow of its kind that opened last year -- differs little from other Landal vacation homes. But for people with a visual impairment the difference is significant. Many adaptations were made particularly in and around the bungalow, as well as at reception, the restaurant and the pool.
"The reactions of guests have been unanimously positive," said Bas Hoogland, commercial director of Landal GreenParks. "That's why we also want to offer this type of bungalow in other locations to offer more people with a disability the opportunity to enjoy a vacation."
Although the Visionvilla has primarily been designed for guests with a visual impairment, it is also suitable for other groups requiring additional comfort needs or specially adapted facilities. Combined, for example, with the services of Comfortzorg, the chance to enjoy a vacation is now available to groups for whom this was previously not an option.
Specially Adapted Facilities
Amongst other things, contrasts have been taken into consideration for the Visionvilla facilities. There is an advanced lighting system and specially adapted equipment. The garden has been enclosed for a possible guide dog. The bungalow is fitted with dimmable light fittings, a large flat screen television and easy-to-operate radio. The alarm clock has a large display and is designed with contrasting control buttons, volume switch and voice button. In the kitchen there is a gas cooker fitted with a thermocouple, which shuts off the gas supply when the lit hobs are switched off. The PenFriend talking label reader and a Visionvilla Compendium of Games, offering some interesting games and easy listening, are some useful and fun extras. Essential information, including the menu and information about the surrounding area, are available in Braille and large print. Landal is currently working on making menus available in large print and Braille in restaurants at all parks.
